a cappella Celtic duo
‘music to take with you on life’s
journey
and as an aid to your travelling’
Canon David Adam
Scotland’s Heather Innes and Ireland’s Jacynth Hamill
sing together as ‘Caim’. They met in Belfast in the 1980s. In
1998, ‘Caim’ the duo was born when Heather invited Jacynth to sing
with her and to research and arrange most of the music for their
first album, ‘Caim, Sung Prayers in the Celtic Tradition', based on
the writings of David Adam, former vicar of Lindisfarne.
Heather lives near Dunkeld on the river Tay in
Scotland. Heather’s forte is unaccompanied singing and her voice is
often described as very peaceful and calming to listen to. She has
an eclectic solo set of songs in English and Irish. She has several
excellent solo recordings to her credit and a great folk album with
Ciaran Dorris.
Jacynth, Ulster born and bred, lives in Belfast. She
has been involved in singing all her life. In addition to her
folk-music interest, Jacynth has extensive choral experience and is
a member of Ceol le Ceile, a cross-community choir. She sings at
conferences and services, gives workshops and runs a
singing/instrumental group in her church.
With music ranging from the lively to the meditative,
‘Caim’ aims to bring the depth and simplicity of Celtic music to a
wide audience. Concert ingredients include Scottish and Irish
traditional songs, contemporary folk songs from around the world,
pieces in Gaelic, singalong items, stories and Irish dancing as well
as some of the Celtic prayers.
In services this beauty and simplicity can draw
people into a receptive and reflective space. ‘Caim’ music touches
the heart, bringing a sense of calm, uplift and peace.
Caim are available for church services, meditative
retreats, conferences, workshops and concerts (including 'House
Concerts').
'Live' Jacynth and Heather sing a cappella and in
harmony for a pure Celtic sound, with the occasional addition of the
beat of the bodhrán. Many tracks on Caim CDs have instrumental
